This game is early access and as such, within 2 hours after a restart the game will start to have physics problems and have blocks float in the air and not fall. Then if you were to walk on these blocks they would just fall on their own and basically just break apart and not hold together. The only ways to fix this is to wipe the server or simply restart the game server program every few hours or so.

Having that said, should we wipe the server again to improve game play for the short term or have regular wipes or do nothing and leave it as is?

We could also create a new style of pve game-play, such as faster loot times and what not with regular wipes for our dedicated server.

Also, it could be the result of limited ram or possibly the excessive use of explosives that results in using additional server resources such as cpu and ram, to process these events on the server. Perhaps trying to ban players with tnt, rockets and other explosives could potentially resolve this issue as well, but since this game is early access and still considered as "under development", this physics problem could be the results of something else entirely and still may occur regardless.

UPDATE - We have recently restarted the server and blew up a building and blocks would still work as they should and not float, so I think its safe to say that explosive are not the cause of this physics issue. I will attempt to look into this further as to finding the cause of this problem, however I may or may not find anything that isn't game related and can be fixed on our end. Best Regards.

I'm pretty torn on the issue. A wipe may be okay, but I hate losing what I've built. Is there a way to regenerate bases in the event of a wipe, or is that just a pipe dream?

Re-uploading specific regions and locations to the new world is possible, however it would be very time consuming to do since everyone would want that done for their base / homes. Doing that would basically defeat the purpose of a wipe in an attempt to try to fix this issue. However, maybe it could just be for those players with larger bases since smaller ones can usually be built back up within a day. Also wiping the server may or may not happen depending on the feedback from this topic.

Furthermore, this problem seems to have started within the past few weeks and may be the result of deep underground mining with explosives from my observations and feedback that I have received but I honestly don't know what the cause is.

Upon next reboot to fix physics I'll stay out of the area I've been mining for 24 hours, Lets see if physics stays stable for that time.

I've already long since discontinued explosive mining but the, lets call them Easter Eggs, are still found throughout the area i'm mining and every time I run into one physics almost always breaks. It has broken a few times when I was not mining but I have not seen that happen often, and with 150+ hours logged in the last two weeks per steam I am on the server just about all day long every day.

So, I think when you build during physics being broken, and then continue after it comes back up this happens.   They were walls that went straight up and down made of concrete, with parapets 3 blocks out 2 blocks thick.   The blocks started falling through the ones below them from top to bottom, and went around both walls like dominoes.  It was crazy to watch.   This happened while physics was working correctly.  So I think building when physics is broken may be a bad idea, but further checking into it may be a good idea.  There was a ditch in front of it, for spiikes but not below it. Land straight below wall was solid all the way to bedrock.

In my opinion it's not the deep mining that is the problem, it's the explosive mining deep underground (more then 20 blocks deep). When you use explosives to mine it throws blocks in all directions. Some of those flying blocks turn into blocks of destroyed stone. I am thinking that sometimes those blocks being launched by the explosion turn into blocks of destroyed stone inside the terrain around the explosion (above, besides, below) and that along with later on mining those "double" block with a pick or auger causes the physics break. I think this because frequently I will destroy a stone block and see the animation of a block falling as if it were an unsupported block falling to the floor and I get the notice of stone being added to my inventory at the same time and every single time I have seen that combination of events (black falling animation along with stone or iron or nitrate resource added to inventory) physics has then been broken.

I think my area is particularly prone to this because I carved out the boundary and a lot of the initial tunnels from one side to the other with tnt. so even though I'm now manually mining out the area with an auger every time I run into one of those "double" blocks physics breaks.

So far physics on the server is still working since the last reboot and I have stayed out of my mine. Commands (/zgate, /day7, etc) are down but physics is working even with other people mining deep with manual methods (auger or pick, etc).

If physics stays running till tomorrow then i'll try to arrange a time where I can continue to mine out my area outside of peak hours when it's known that the server can be rebooted. I think once I have the area cleared out I can continue my build without affecting physics any further.

If this vote does go the route of a server wipe I'd put my vote into banning explosives (not explosive arrows but pipe bombs, tnt, dynamite, flares, etc) all the things that launch terrain blocks in the air when exploding.

anyways my $0.02 :P

There's no way to fix that wipe and start over.

I would love a wipe and play on my 1080 GPU.

Changed my vote to wipe.

I'd like explosives banned as well since mining with explosives is what caused the current physics issue but there wasn't an option for wipe and ban explosives.

I added that to the poll just barely under option 8. ^_^

After gathering players feedback on this topic the server has been wiped and all explosives are now banned. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Best Regards.
